In April I made a list of all the good things that had happened because of Covid. I am a “The glass is half full” kind of person by nature but in April, I was in more of a “Not only is the glass empty, it’s been smashed” mood. The list was to force me to see something positive from all of this “the world is upside down,” craziness that I was growing weary of. I actually surprised myself and was able to come up with quite a few things that were better or accomplished due to staying home. Two more months of staying at home and then a month of testing the waters and I see this:
What if 2020 isn’t canceled?
What if 2020 is the year we’ve been waiting for?
A year so uncomfortable, so painful, so scary, so raw—
that it finally forces us to grow,
A year that screams so loud, finally awakening us from our ignorant slumber.
A year we finally accept the need for change.
Declare change. Work for change. Become the change.
A year we finally band together, instead of
pushing each other further apart.
2020 isn’t canceled, but rather
the most important year of them all.

Getting what we need
I don’t know much about Leslie but I think she is on to something here. This virus is forcing us to grow or at least think about things differently. I found her words very encouraging. I know a lot of people that were excited about 2020, a new decade, has a good ring to it but this is not what they were expecting. In fairness, it caught the world off guard. Instead of getting what we wanted, we might have gotten what we needed…more time with immediate family, more time by ourselves, time to think about what’s important to us, time to re-evaluate things in our lives, time to go outside, take a walk, time to make some changes, time to take a breath, look around and make some meaningful life changing decisions.
What did you learn?
How about you? Did you discover anything about yourself in the past four months? What do you need to do to make 2020 the most important year in your life?
How can I help?
If some of the changes you would like to see this year are some new financial habits and creating a financial plan that could change your future and the future of the ones you love, give me a call, shoot me an email, let’s talk about how to make 2020 a year of growth for you!
